Developing a successful tennis game for my students is my primary goal.  If I do that, everything else will fall into place.  Let's look at the classic problem solving formula:

  • WHO - you and me, student and teacher, player and coach
  • WHAT - the game of tennis, the code, the rules, the court, the ball, the racket, the other equipment, the playing conditions, the strategy, the tactics, sportsmanship, gamesmanship, and spectatorship
  • WHERE - on the court and off the court
  • WHEN - every day of the rest of our lives
  • WHY - because this sure beats working a real job, it's fun and enjoyable and its healthy
  • HOW - by understanding first, by trying & applying second, by practicing & training, and finally by playing, losing, winning

BASIC PLAYING CONCEPTS

Phase 1: Beginner Play 'not to lose'
(get every ball back; hit 100 balls
in a row)
Phase 2: Intermediate Hit past the service line
(play consistently & go a little deeper)
Phase 3: Advanced Shot selection
(percentage tennis and when to attack)
